We repair garage doors throughout Kanata: broken springs, snapped cables, doors off track, openers, sensors and weather seals. We also do tune-ups and supply new Garaga doors.
Mokhtaar, the owner, does the work himself. We're based in Ottawa and cover Kanata as part of our regular service area, with the same flat-rate prices as everywhere else in the city.
Kanata was built in waves. Beaverbrook and Glen Cairn were among the first neighbourhoods. Katimavik-Hazeldean followed, then Bridlewood, then Morgan's Grant and Kanata Lakes, and building is still going on at the edges.
Each wave left its own mark in the garage. The earliest homes can still have older doors, openers without photo-eye sensors and extension springs that have been patched over the years. Many of the homes from the 1980s and 1990s have two-car garages with torsion springs well past their rated life, and an opener that has already been replaced once. The newer homes have heavier insulated doors with builder-grade springs, rollers and openers that tend to wear out on a schedule.
Most springs are rated for about 10,000 cycles, and one cycle is one open and one close. A busy household can go through that in seven years or so. Spring breaks also tend to come in clusters on streets built in the same year, because the parts all went in at the same time.
Many Kanata homes have two-car garages, and when it's time for a new door, owners often ask whether one wide door or two single doors is better. On an existing house, the answer usually comes down to the opening you already have. Turning one wide opening into two narrower ones means adding a post and reworking the framing, which is a renovation job rather than a door swap.
Within the opening you have, here's how the two setups compare. A single wide door is heavier, so it needs larger springs and a stronger opener, and when a spring breaks, the whole garage is stuck. Two single doors each carry less weight, and if one fails, you can still use the other side. On the other hand, two doors means two sets of springs, rollers, cables and openers to look after.
Most of our Kanata calls are for wide double doors that feel heavy, run loud or have started to sag. Often that's worn rollers, a tired spring or a door that's out of balance, and a repair fixes it. When the door itself is done, we quote a new Garaga door for the opening you have.
Wide two-car doors need properly sized springs. We replace worn ones and rebalance the door.
Learn more →Heavy double doors put extra strain on cables. We replace frayed cables before they let go.
Learn more →A wide door that comes off track can twist. We re-hang it and square the tracks to the opening.
Learn more →Openers on heavy two-car doors work hard. We repair or replace them with models suited to the weight.
Learn more →Older Kanata openers may have no photo-eyes, and newer ones get knocked out of line. We fix both.
Learn more →A long bottom seal on a double door wears unevenly. We replace it along with the side weatherstrip.
