On most major brands the gear kit is a repair, not a replacement.
Usually the safety sensors near the floor are misaligned, dirty, or blocked by something in the garage.
If the sensors are fine, the close force or travel limit is set wrong, or the door itself is binding on a track or roller.
Start with a battery, then a reprogram. If several remotes fail at once it is usually the receiver or logic board rather than the remotes.

Gears, sensors, remotes, logic boards and rails are all repairable. If the unit is over fifteen years old, has no rolling code security, or the repair is close to the price of a new opener, replacing is the better spend.
