How Much Does a New Garage Door Cost in Ottawa?

Why I don't quote a number up front

Two doors that look alike can be very different in price. Size, insulation and hardware make a big difference. I'd rather measure, hear what you want, and give you a real number than guess and change it later.

Estimates are free. Call or text me and I'll set it up. You get the price before any work starts, and there are no surprise fees.

Size: single or double

The size of the opening is the first thing that sets the price. A single door costs less than a double door. Taller openings, or odd sizes in older homes, can need a custom size.

If you have two single doors, you can replace them as two singles or talk about options. I'll measure and tell you what fits.

Insulation

In Ottawa, insulation matters. An insulated door keeps the garage warmer, protects anything stored there, and helps if you have a room above or beside the garage. It also makes the door stiffer and quieter.

Doors come uninsulated, with a basic insulation layer, or with thicker insulated steel. More insulation costs more but is usually worth it for an attached garage.

Material

Steel is the most common choice. It's strong, low maintenance and comes in lots of colours and wood-look finishes. Aluminum and full-view glass doors give a modern look. Real wood is beautiful but needs more upkeep in our climate.

Windows

Windows add light and style. Clear, frosted and decorative glass are all options. More windows, or specialty glass, add to the price. Frosted glass is popular because it lets light in while keeping the garage private.

Style

Raised panel, carriage style, flush modern and long panel designs all look different on a house. Decorative hardware, custom colours and special finishes change the price too.

What's included in the install

A proper install includes removing and taking away the old door, installing the new door with new springs, cables, tracks and rollers, balancing it, and connecting it to your opener. If your opener is old, it's a good time to think about replacing it too. See opener installation.

Opener and extras

Some people keep their existing opener. Others take the chance to upgrade to a quieter belt drive or a Wi-Fi opener. Keypads, extra remotes and battery backup are other add-ons to think about.

None of these are required. I'll go through what you have and tell you honestly whether it's worth changing.

How to compare quotes

When you compare quotes, check that each one includes the same things: the same door size and insulation, new springs sized for the new door, new tracks and rollers, removal of the old door, and who is doing the work.

A lower price sometimes means reused tracks or springs that aren't matched to the new door's weight. That can shorten the life of the door and the opener. Ask what's included. I'd rather you understand what you're paying for.

When I give you a price, it's the price. It's confirmed before any work starts, with no surprise fees.

Call or text me with a photo of your current door and your rough measurements if you have them. I'll ask a few questions about what you like, then come out to measure and give you a firm number.

How long the install takes

Most single and double door installs are done in one day. I remove the old door, install the new one, set up the springs and balance, connect the opener and test everything before I leave. I'll also show you how to use the manual release and how to keep the door in good shape.
